Principal's Message

October may be one of the longest months in the year, but it seemed to go by with the blink of an eye here at Sundance. Our Math & Science Night was very successful. We welcomed nearly 200 students and their families. Thank you to Mrs. Heather Cannon for organizing this enriching event for families and providing a science learning opportunity for students through the science fair. We had many amazing class entries across all grade levels as well as 6th grade individual participants who highlighted the investigative process. Congratulations to our Best of Show winners who will go on to the Central Regional Science & Engineering Fair at Expo NM in March 2023: Eliana Tanner, Cameron Hinker, Nathan Dewahe, Taytum Benavidez, J.A. Hackney, and Rohan Patel. Thank you also to the Los Lunas High School NHS students who led the Explora tables to keep students engaged in science all night long! Many of these volunteers were former Sundance students.

Our annual Halloween Renaissance Assembly was a great success! Thank you to all families who were able to join us. The weather was beautiful and our staff and students showed so much school spirit. The winners of the Renaissance grade-level spirit chants were PreK and 5th grade. The winners of the staff costume contest were the Specials teachers and Special Education team with their amazing performance of Encanto.

There are very few instructional days in the month of November due to there being no school on Veteran’s Day and the week of Thanksgiving. Our teachers intend to make the most of every minute we have with students. Attendance is very important. Teachers have planned for the second quarter of the school year to include new learning in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Science, and Social Studies. Progress reports for this quarter will be sent home with students on Monday, November 7th. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher. I am also here to support your child on his or her academic journey. Please reach out if you need anything. Thank you for your continued support!
