Illustration Of BooksHappy Fall!

October was a blur of busy busy busy and a lot of cold weather. First off, BOOK FAIR! It was a huge success. We had over $13,000 in sales. With the profits, I purchased $1600 worth of books directly from the fair for our library (with the help of students in all grades). It was so exciting to see the parents come out and participate this year…it was our largest sales night. I cannot thank our parent volunteers enough for all of your hard work and dedication. It was wonderful getting to know each and every one of you and watch you interact with and help our amazing students. Our next Book Fair will be sometime in the spring. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact me.

This month, we will continue to focus on SEL. Our competency now is “social awareness.” I have several books picked out to read aloud, and some activities to go along with them. I am going to work with our older grades on learning how to shelve books. A lot of our students have expressed interest in helping, so this is a great way for all of us to learn together. They will practice skills in putting numbers with decimals in order, as well as their alphabetizing. It is a wonderful opportunity to teach them why we must put our books in order, as well as keep our library put together for all the ages. I am also going to integrate some technology into our library by showing grades 1-6 how to find books in our library catalog called Destiny. Students will be able to search books by author, subject, and key word. I think they will enjoy knowing what books we have, if they’re checked out, and where they are.

One last thing…those Halloween costumes were incredible!
