school suppliesSundance Elementary School has received a truckload of school supplies to help students in need. The generous donation came from the residents of Jublilee at Los Lunas, the active adult living community nearby.

“We were in shock at the amount of donations,” expressed Edward Ramirez, assistant principal of Sundance Elementary. “To my surprise an entire truck bed worth of materials arrived last week.”

Frances Conroy, a resident and Social Committee Member of Jubilee, is a former educator and school counselor in Valencia County, including Los Lunas Schools. She said when she moved to the neighborhood last year; she knew she wanted to help the students in the area.

“She asked what we needed and we provided her with our list,” stated Mr. Ramirez. “She told me she would have everything in two weeks. It was enough to completely fill my office with little standing room.”

“You name it, we got it!” she exclaimed. “Backpacks, water bottles, lunch boxes, crayons, highlighters, paper, rulers, pens.”

One resident also made supply baskets for the school staff. It is just the beginning of what she would like to accomplish for the students at Sundance Elementary.

“I would like to have a Thanksgiving drive and make food baskets for our families,” she said. “And maybe a shoe drive or coat drive for Christmas.”

Thank You cardsThe students and staff at Sundance Elementary are grateful to the residents of Jubilee.

“As a reciprocation of thanks, many of our students wrote letters of sincere appreciation,” said Mr. Ramirez.

The letters are on a mural, featured at the Jubliee community center for residents to enjoy.
