What's Happening

Principal's Message

We are really excited and look forward to working with your children.  I sincerely hope that it was a pleasant summer and that the coming school year will be rewarding for both you and the students we work with each day.

The school year has gotten off to a smooth and positive start.  We currently have 565 students, down from 600 students last school year.

New Staff Members:

  • Ms. Annette Torres, Teacher
  • Ms. Traci Escajeda, Counselor
  • Mr. John Andrade, Custodian

Open House:

Thank you for attending our annual open house for Sundance Elementary and Los Lunas Schools.  Over 85% of our students, parents and staff members joined us in the celebration of learning.  We really enjoyed seeing you and appreciate your time and interest.  Teachers and students were busy showing/discussing "A day in the life of a student at Sundance Elementary."  The pizza, salad, cupcakes and water sold by our PTO officers and volunteers was an added treat!

During the month of August, all Sundance Elementary students took assessments called IStation.  We administer the IStation test to determine instructional levels and to measure academic growth throughout the school year.  Your child took the test on a computer or iPad.  IStation tests are unique in that they adapt to your child's current level of performance.  As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.  The following tests will be administered in January 2020 and May 2020.  Students in grades K-6 will be tested in the subject areas of Math and Reading.

Students will be assessed continually in the classroom.  Ongoing assessment enables teachers to clearly focus instruction on student needs.   Teachers will explain assessment results during Parent-Teacher Conferences in October.  If you have any questions on assessment procedures, please contact your child's teacher.

I hope you share with me the challenge and anticipation of another school year.  Best wishes to you and your families.
